BioAir at the 62th AFI Symposium in RIMINI, Italy

BioAir organized a real interesting workshop at the 62th AFI Symposium, titled: “ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN PRODUCTION OF ADVANCED THERAPIES: A SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS AND A COMPARISON BETWEEN CLEANROOM (AinB) AND CLOSED SYSTEM (AinD)”.

The symposium was magically chaired by Luisa Nolli, a very important Opinion Leader of the Industry.

The symposium underlined the importance of the ATMP and the barriers represented by the high production costs and the complex processes in sterile environments, with high costs in terms of utility costs.

Presenters underlined the solution of the above problems. They pointed out how ATMPs can also be produced in closed systems, such as, for example, insulators, bioreactors and other systems, which, as indicated in the guidelines of Eudralex vol.4 part 4, can be installed in class D environments.

The main focus of the workshop was the systematic analysis and comparison between the carbon footprint of a classic open cleanroom system (AinB) versus a closed system with insulators (AinD), determining opportunities to improve the Co2 Footprint.
